Itanagar: In a major crackdown under “Operation Dawn 2.0,” East Siang Police on Tuesday apprehended a suspected drug peddler in Pasighat and recovered small quantities of heroin and ganja during a targeted operation.

Acting on specific intelligence received around 9:05 a.m., a police team led by ADS IC Ayup Boko, along with other officers, set up a naka checkpoint and intercepted a suspect identified as Maklung Tayeng, a resident of Mebo in East Siang district.

Police said the accused was travelling in a Night Super bus when he was stopped in the presence of Executive Magistrate Sanjay Taram. A body search led to the recovery of suspected heroin weighing 1.49 grams (including packet) and ganja weighing 3.12 grams (including packet).

Officials stated that the seized contraband was properly weighed, packed, sealed, and documented in accordance with legal procedures. The entire operation was also videographed to ensure transparency.

The accused has been taken into custody, and the seized items have been handed over to Pasighat Police Station for further legal action. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, including Section 21(a) and Section 20(b)(ii)(A).

Superintendent of Police East Siang, Pankaj Lamba, commended the police team for the successful operation and reiterated a zero-tolerance approach towards drug-related offences.

He also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or illegal activities, emphasizing that community cooperation is essential to achieving a drug-free East Siang.
