Decision Driven by High Visitor Demand

In a move that has delighted wildlife enthusiasts and the local hospitality sector, the authorities at Kaziranga National Park have announced a four-day extension to the current tourism season. Originally slated to close its gates to visitors on May 25 to initiate mandatory monsoon-preparedness protocols, the UNESCO World Heritage site will now remain accessible until May 29, 2026.

The decision was finalized after park management assessed a consistent and robust influx of both domestic and international tourists. The Kaziranga Hotel and Resort Association had played a pivotal role in this extension, submitting strong appeals to the park administration to capitalize on the sustained visitor interest during the tail-end of the season.

Balancing Conservation and Commerce

While the extension provides a much-needed boost to the local economy—impacting businesses ranging from jungle safari operators to resort owners—the park authorities maintain a strict focus on ecological safety.

Park officials confirmed that the four-day grace period is a calculated adjustment. Once the final bell rings on May 29, the park will undergo its seasonal transformation:

  • Monsoon Preparedness: Teams will shift focus to infrastructure maintenance required to survive Assam’s heavy seasonal rainfall.
  • Conservation Focus: The closure is essential to ensure the safety of the park’s flagship species, the endangered one-horned rhinoceros, and to allow the fragile ecosystem time to regenerate undisturbed during the peak rainy months.

The extended window offers a final opportunity for travelers to experience the unique landscape of Kaziranga before the monsoon season descends upon the Brahmaputra Valley.
