CHUMOUKEDIMA, NAGALAND: Following a laboratory-confirmed outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) at Toulazouma Village in Nagaland’s Chumoukedima district, the local administration has enforced strict emergency containment measures to aggressively curb the spread of the highly contagious disease.
According to an official advisory issued by Polan John, the Deputy Commissioner of Chumoukedima, a dual-layer security perimeter has been established around the epicentre:
- The Infected Zone: The immediate area within a 1-kilometre radius from the outbreak epicentre has been completely sealed.
- The Surveillance Zone: A broader area extending within a 10-kilometre radius has been designated for intense medical monitoring.

Strict Prohibitions on Trade and Movement
To break the chain of transmission, the district administration has clamped down heavily on the region’s livestock and meat industry. The movement and transport of pigs, pork, pig products, animal feed, and related materials have been strictly prohibited both within and outside the notified zones.
Furthermore, the slaughter, sale, and distribution of pigs and pork products in the containment zones have been banned entirely until further notice. Authorities warned that any violation of this advisory will invite strict legal action under the relevant provisions of the law.
Department Mobilization and Biosecurity Protocols
To strengthen ground-level monitoring, the Veterinary Department—in close coordination with law enforcement agencies—has been instructed to carry out round-the-clock surveillance and implement preventive measures across all impacted pockets.
