Kolkata: Tensions escalated across West Bengal following the Assembly election results, with multiple incidents of violence reported from different parts of the state. The Trinamool Congress has accused BJP supporters of orchestrating attacks on its offices and vandalising shops in several areas.

According to party leaders, incidents of violence were reported near Kolkata’s New Market area, where shops were allegedly damaged and TMC offices targeted. The party claimed that the situation reflects a climate of fear rather than a celebration of electoral victory.

TMC further alleged that central forces failed to intervene during the violence, allowing the situation to deteriorate. The party described the developments as “terror” unleashed in the name of “poriborton” (change).

The allegations also included sharp criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, with the party claiming that their policies have emboldened workers to engage in violent acts.

Meanwhile, in North 24 Parganas district, tension prevailed in the Bamangheri area under Sarberia-Agarhati gram panchayat, where unidentified individuals allegedly opened fire on a police and central forces team during a night patrol. Security has since been tightened in the region.

Reports also suggested that a TMC office in Jagatballavpur was set on fire, further intensifying concerns over law and order in the state.

Opposition leaders warned that the situation could worsen, with fears that the violence may extend beyond property damage to target political opponents and civilians. However, these claims have not been independently verified.

The Trinamool Congress has announced that it will strongly resist such incidents and will not bow to pressure. The party termed the developments as “state-sponsored violence” and vowed to launch protests against the attacks.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as tensions remain high in several districts across West Bengal.
