Agartala: Tension gripped Dharmanagar in North Tripura following the alleged unnatural death of BJP Yuva Morcha leader Rahul Kishore Roy, triggering protests and road blockades across the town.

Roy, a councillor of Ward No. 5 under the Dharmanagar Municipal Council and Mandal President of the BJP Yuva Morcha, was found dead inside the bathroom of his residence under suspicious circumstances. The incident has sparked widespread outrage among party workers and local residents.

Protesters, including BJP leaders, councillors, and citizens, blocked key roads in Dharmanagar demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible. The agitation brought vehicular movement to a standstill for several hours, disrupting normal life in the area.

Family members of the deceased have alleged that unidentified miscreants had visited their residence a day before the incident. According to them, Roy was verbally abused and physically assaulted. They further claimed that they could identify the accused and suggested that the act may have been premeditated with possible political motives.

Police officials said that the exact cause of death is yet to be determined and that an investigation has been initiated. Authorities added that all angles, including the allegations made by the family, are being thoroughly examined.

Meanwhile, protesters warned of intensifying their agitation if swift action is not taken. They termed the incident unacceptable and called for immediate intervention by the administration.

Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed grief over the incident and assured a fair probe. In a statement, he said he was deeply saddened by Roy’s death and extended condolences to the bereaved family. He also assured that a comprehensive and impartial investigation would be conducted, with appropriate legal action to follow.

The situation in Dharmanagar remains tense, with security forces deployed and authorities maintaining close vigil as the investigation continues.
