The Higher Education Department of the Tripura Government has announced the immediate withdrawal of the 26-day summer vacation for all state-controlled higher learning centers. This unexpected operational shift affects all General Degree Colleges, Professional Colleges, and Technical Institutes across the state. According to an official notification issued on May 21, 2026, the scheduled recess—which was originally slated to run from May 25, 2026, to June 18, 2026—stands completely canceled for the ongoing academic year.
Critical Operations During the Open Period
State education officials clarified that campus doors will remain open throughout this period to clear heavy administrative backlogs and handle pivotal academic milestones. The decision was prompted by the need to streamline the upcoming 2026-27 academic session admissions, alongside managing the smooth execution of even semester examinations. College administrations will also utilize these working weeks to complete other essential institutional tasks that cannot be delayed.
Compensatory Earned Leave Provisions for Staff
Recognizing the disruption to regular schedules, the department has outlined a compensatory framework for affected personnel. Faculty members and non-teaching staff who report for duty during what would have been their holiday period will receive Earned Leave (EL) benefits. This leave will be calculated proportionately based on their biometric attendance and actual days served, up to a maximum ceiling of 26 days.
A One-Time Direct Order
Authorities have emphasized that this special emergency arrangement is strictly temporary and will remain applicable only for the current academic year. The directive, which carries the formal stamp of the highest competent authorities, was digitally authorized and issued by Animesh Debbarma, the Additional Secretary and Director of the Education (Higher) Department, Government of Tripura.
