The “Margin vs. Deletion” Rule
A bench led by Justice Joymalya Bagchi has allowed the filing of fresh petitions for these specific seats. The court noted that in cases where the victory margin is narrow (e.g., 2%) but voter deletions are significantly higher (e.g., 15%), judicial intervention is required to ensure the integrity of the mandate.

- Mass Deletions: Over 91 lakh names (12% of the electorate) were removed during the SIR process.
- Narrow Margins: In 47 seats across the state, the number of excluded voters actually exceeded the margin of victory.

According to EC data, the Trinamool Congress actually won 13 out of the 20 constituencies with the highest deletion rates (including Murshidabad and Malda). The ECI maintains the revision was a necessary “cleanup” of logical discrepancies and bogus entries.
