NEW DELHI — In an unprecedented logistical and security operation, the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Saturday concluded a massive, nationwide mock drill across thousands of centers to ensure the foolproof execution of the rescheduled NEET-UG 2026 medical entrance examination.

The high-stakes medical entrance exam—originally conducted on May 3 but subsequently cancelled due to allegations of a paper leak—is scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 21, 2026, in offline pen-and-paper mode. Over 22.79 lakh candidates are registered to appear at 5,440 designated centers spread across 551 domestic cities and 14 cities internationally.

Determined to restore the sanctity of the examination, the Central Government and the NTA have established an airtight, multi-layered security infrastructure for the re-test.

The Fortress Strategy: 2 Lakh Personnel & Three-Tier Security

The Saturday mock drill, which ran from 9:00 AM until late evening, was conducted to test every operational metric—from biometric authentication to signal jamming and secure question paper escort routes.

To pull off a 100% error-free examination, authorities have mobilised a monumental force:

  • Human Resources: Over 2 lakh personnel, including localized police forces, district administrators, and specialized escort teams, are deployed on the ground.
  • The Invigilation Grid: Every single one of the 95,000+ examination rooms will feature two invigilators, backed by a minimum of 10 additional administrative staff per center.
  • Independent Oversight: More than 6,700 independent observers, alongside 100+ virtual central observers and 674 city coordinators, are stationed to ensure transparency.

Anti-Malpractice Tech: 1.38 Lakh CCTVs and 51,000 Jammers

To completely eliminate the risk of digital communication and impersonation, the NTA has weaponized high-end technology for Sunday’s exam:

  • Live Monitoring: A staggering 1,38,560 CCTV cameras have been wired across all 95,000+ testing rooms. The feeds are being monitored live via AI-assisted systems at the national, state, and ministry levels.
  • Signal Blackouts: To prevent electronic leakages or bluetooth cheating, 51,311 signal jammers supplied by defense PSUs (ECIL and BEL) have been successfully tested and deployed.
  • Rigorous Frisking: The NTA has employed 38,795 dedicated frisking staff equipped with high-sensitivity metal detectors alongside 48,448 biometric verification personnel to carry out Aadhaar-based fingerprint and face authentication.
  • Digital Lockdown: As an extreme precautionary measure, the Union Government has even enforced a temporary restriction on the messaging platform Telegram ahead of the exam cycle to curb the viral spread of potential rumors or fraudulent leak claims.

Essential Guidelines for Candidates: Timings & Strict Dress Code

The NTA has made it clear that there will be absolutely zero flexibility regarding late entry or non-compliance with protocols. Candidates must strictly align with the following directives:

1. High-Priority Timings

  • Reporting Window: 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM.
  • Gate Closing Time: 1:30 PM Sharp. No candidate will be permitted entry after 1:30 PM under any circumstance.
  • Exam Duration: 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM (195 minutes). Candidates with benchmark disabilities (PwD/PwBD) eligible for compensatory time will be allowed to write until 6:20 PM.

2. Mandatory Documents to Carry

Entry will be barred if a student fails to present physical copies of the following:

  • Admit Card: A clear, printed copy of the updated NEET-UG 2026 Re-Examination Admit Card downloaded from the official portal.
  • Valid Photo ID: An original, government-issued identity card (Aadhaar, PAN Card, Passport, or Voter ID). Digital IDs or photocopies are strictly invalid.
  • Passport Photos: Two recent passport-size photographs to be affixed directly onto the official attendance sheet inside the examination hall.

3. The Prohibited and Permitted List

  • The Dress Code: Candidates must wear slippers or low-heeled sandals. Closed footwear, boots, high heels, and heavy jewelry/metallic accessories are strictly prohibited. While full-sleeved or customary/religious attire (such as a hijab or turban) is permitted, those wearing them must report exactly at 11:00 AM to allow for extensive, respectful security screenings.
  • Allowed Items: Only the required documents and a completely transparent water bottle are allowed inside. Personal stationeries, bags, wallets, electronic items, and food packets are banned.

With the Indian Air Force (IAF) heavily involved in securely transporting confidential examination materials to various logistical hubs, the government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure this June 21 re-test is completely error-free and fair for the millions of medical aspirants nationwide.
