IMPHAL — In a major blow to underground networks, a high-intensity, 24-hour blitz by a joint team of State and Central forces has led to the recovery of a staggering cache of war-grade weaponry, explosives, and tactical gear across the Imphal East district. The coordinated sweeps targeted “fringe and vulnerable” areas, successfully neutralizing several high-risk caches hidden at the foothills.
The Nongmaijing Raid: A Minefield of Explosives
The most significant breakthrough occurred in the rugged terrain of Nongmaijing Chingkhong. Acting on pinpoint intelligence, security forces uncovered a massive stash of explosives at an abandoned site used by armed miscreants.
The recovery included an alarming 13 kg of IED explosive materials, 40 detonators, and 19 rounds of 2.1 mortar ammunition. Alongside the explosives, the team seized an INSAS rifle, a .303 rifle, and 11 hand grenades, effectively dismantling a potential site for large-scale sabotage.
Foothill Sweep: High-Caliber Firepower Recovered
The operation didn’t stop there. Simultaneous raids were conducted across multiple strategic locations:
- Awa Ching: Forces recovered an SLR rifle, a 9 mm SMG Carbine, and a specialized radio wireless set equipped with a telescope, suggesting a sophisticated surveillance setup.
- Chingkhei Ching: Tactical units secured a 9 mm pistol, a .32 pistol, and over 50 rounds of live ammunition.
- Mongjam Village: The search yielded a 12-bore single-barrel gun and a significant amount of tactical equipment.
Tactical Gear and Logistics Neutralized
eyond firepower, the seizure highlighted the logistical readiness of the miscreants. Security forces recovered a suite of combat essentials, including:
- Ballistic Protection: Seven bulletproof jackets and eight iron plates.
- Combat Gear: Four tactical helmets.
- Communication: Multiple BAOFENG radio wireless sets and high-speed chargers.
The sheer volume of magazines—ranging from LMG to SLR and INSAS variants—points to a significant logistical operation that has now been disrupted.
Official Handover and Next Steps
A police spokesperson confirmed that all recovered items have been handed over to the respective Police Stations (Irilbung, Porompat, and Heingang) for further forensic analysis and legal proceedings. While no arrests were reported during the immediate raids, the “area domination” exercise continues as security forces maintain a heightened presence in the region to ensure public safety.
