AGARTALA | May 18, 2026 – The journalistic fraternity of Tripura plunged into deep mourning on Monday following the demise of veteran journalist Pradip Chakraborty. One of the pioneering pillars of the state’s leading Bengali daily, Dainik Sambad, Chakraborty passed away at the age of 74 after a prolonged illness. His death marks yet another tragic and irreparable loss for the regional media landscape.
Throughout his illustrious career, Chakraborty was highly respected for his unwavering commitment to public interest and grassroots journalism. He spent decades highlighting the socio-economic struggles, grievances, and hardships of ordinary citizens living in the remote and rural corners of Tripura. At a time when rural reporting demanded immense courage and physical endurance, he consistently brought the voices of marginalized communities into the mainstream public domain.
Following his passing, condolences poured in from all sections of society. Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha expressed profound grief, hailing Chakraborty’s immense contribution to responsible journalism and the state’s development. Senior journalists and media bodies, including Agartala Press Club and the Assembly of Journalists, recalled him as a compassionate human being and a tireless mentor who guided an entire generation of young reporters.
With his departure, following former Dainik Sambad legends like Bhupendra Chandra Datta Bhowmik, an iconic chapter in Tripura’s media history draws to a close.
