In a landmark achievement for Northeast India, Tripura has emerged as the first state in the country to successfully complete all 51 priority areas under the National Compliance Reduction and Deregulation initiative. Addressing a press conference in Agartala on Thursday, Kiran Gitte (IAS), Secretary of the Industries and Commerce Department, confirmed that the state has fulfilled 100% of the targets set under both Phase-I and Phase-II of the reforms.
Key Highlights of the Reform Journey:
- Complete Implementation: Tripura successfully cleared 23 priority areas in Phase-I and 28 areas in Phase-II, covering sectors like Revenue, Urban Development, Labour, Tourism, Health, and Education.
- Digital Transformation: The SWAAGAT Single Window Portal now covers 72 services, integrating departmental workflows and ensuring time-bound approvals.
- Ease of Doing Business: Major reforms include reducing land-use categories from 100 to just 10, introducing self-certification for land conversion, and allowing women to work night shifts with adequate safeguards.
- Legal & Social Reforms: Under the Tripura Jan Vishwas Act, 2025, several minor offenses were decriminalized. In the social sector, regulations for homestays and educational institutions were simplified to encourage local entrepreneurship.
Impact on Investment: The Secretary noted that these reforms have already boosted investor confidence. Out of ₹35,000 crore in investment proposals, projects worth ₹5,352 crore have already been grounded. With this achievement, Tripura has set a blueprint for other Indian states to follow in building a future-ready, “frictionless” governance model.
